Paramore and producer Joseph Mankiewicz, though Fitzgerald fought to salvage as much of his original script as possible. By his own reckoning, only about a third of the final script was his, and “all shad­ows and rhythm removed.”

 

The script published here is the one Fitzgerald tried desperately to save. Neither Mankiewicz nor Paramore has written a line. This script is, of course, valuable to those who would know the complete Fitzgerald. It also proves fas­cinating as a study of adaptation, show­ing which scenes Fitzgerald chose to dramatize to catch the essence of the Remarque story as well as showing how he made visual what the novelist could place in the heads of his readers.

 

Series editor Matthew J. Bruccoli provides the background in an il­luminating Afterword and in an appen­dix containing eight scenes that re­sulted from the collaboration of Man­kiewicz, Paramore, and Fitzgerald.

I don't know what other reviews are talking about. My kid carries/chucks this thing all over the place, and it doesn't even have a torn page. This book is solid as all heck.The content is great. It really helps world build the Gravity Falls universe. So much new material to obsess over. Great for any fan of the series.

THEN I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU BUY THIS BOOK! SURE, ITS NOT THAT DURABLE (IT COULD HARDLY SURVIVE GETTING BURNED! HAHA) NOR IS IT THE ENTIRE COLLECTION, BUT IT IS A PRETTY INTERESTING READ ABOUT MY POSSIBLE FUTURE SLAVES AND THE GUY WHO WROTE IT SURE KNOWS HOW TO LEND A 'HAND'. You can really see how much time and effort went into creating this journal. It is an EXACT replica of what is on the show. Its really amazing, especially for the price. Honestly I was just expecting a weird little "Disney product" book with like show trivia and just one or two pages from the show but oh. My. God. This thing is a beast and I'm so happy? I'm so content with this book. This was everything I wanted and more. I'm just so happy with it I can't even explain it. It's massive and incredible and the quality is amazing I would have happily paid twice the price for it. I'm elated as hell. Thank you. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the show kids and adults alike.Note: do not leave open while cats are about.

This is a must have for anyone who's seen gravity falls! However I would NOT recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen the show or all the episodes in order cause it contains lots of spoilers and probably wouldn't make sense to someone who hasn't seen the show. I pre ordered my copy and got it the day it was released, I have since then read it too many times to count and not a single page has come loose but maybe I just got lucky and my copy was made with a better batch of glue than everyone else's. Overall, the binding problem definitely seems to have been fixed since then so if you're thinking about buying the book nowadays don't let the reviews about the bad binding stop you! I was a bit disappointed that cipher hunt page wasn't in here cause it looked like a journal page but oh well. I however was not disappointed by the lack of invisible ink since Alex said on his twitter before journal 3 was released that it wouldn't contain the invisible ink so I wasn't expecting it too. I also pre-ordered the journal 3: special edition! I hope the success of Journal 3 will lead to more gravity falls merchandise!EDIT: Journal 3 is also a #1 New York Times bestseller and has been on the New York Times bestseller list for 34 weeks straight! And it's still on the New York Times bestseller seller list to this day!, and since it's only at #5 after 34 weeks on the list it will probably remain on the list for a long time to come! Journal 3 also was on Barnes and nobles top 100 books list at #2, and it made the top 20 customer favorite books list for kids and young adults on amazon in 2016! Also, Forget the age range too, I'm 16 (almost 17) and I love this book!EDIT 2: Now Journal 3 has been on the NYT bestseller list for 46 weeks! Gravity Falls fans are the best!

I can't believe how amazing this book is! It's as if the Journal from the show was taken right off the screen. I love that the cover can come off so you don't have the Gravity Falls logo right on the cover.

Amazing book. From the show, you would think it would just be something you flip through for pictures, but there is actually a story.And the picture with the logo and title is just a dust-cover, that doubles as a poster! You can take that off and the actual Journal cover looks like the one from the show, with no messy title or UPC codes or anything. Only thing that could make it better would be actual black light ink! (Edit: They made a Special Edition with black light ink! Preordered it!)I think it was NYT #1 bestseller for a bit?Edit: I saw lots of comments about the binding, so I have been pretty careful with my copy, and so far, I have had no issues.

Bought this for the hubs because he loved the cartoon. He greeted it with "it's a book." Followed by the ever constant "you remember that you're the one that likes to read, right?" that I've been hearing for some 25 years.You would think I would remember, but I never do. I'm always cruising book stores and Amazon for myself, then feeling that moment of delight when I find a book on a subject in which he's interested, and promptly buying it, and then looking for more so I can buy him a lovely thematic set of books which I can wrap up in a bow. In this case, I even looked for Journals 1 and 2 (yes, I'm an idiot - even though I was in the same room when he was watching the show) thinking I would buy those for him too. Truth is, I have a book right now in the queue for his birthday. After 30 plus years together, I still have no clue. But I do read. A lot.So he gets this for Christmas, attempts to feign some delight (at least I had an appropriate theme - he really did like the show, and I got him a t-shirt, too). Imagine my surprise when a month later, after reading some of it at night before going to sleep, he finishes and says "that was a pretty good book" - words that have only passed his lips after being forced to complete "To Kill a Mockingbird" in high school. "Little Women" was "OK," (he only read that because I asked him to) and he didn't like "Robinson Crusoe," "Canterbury Tales" or "Vanity Fair" (admittedly, he had style issues with those). I'm calling this a complete win for me, the show and the authors. Not to mention anyone who may not enjoy reading.

The book cover came torn and detached.The book's status was not as described.

This is an astounding photographic journey from down town Beirut's yesteryears to date. On one side we have a photo of a destroyed building or alley, on the other, the alley or building as it stands now, rebuilt and reborn. Like the phoenix risen from its own ashes, so is Down town Beirut, and this is what this book illustrates. It shows the saga of one man's dream...Rafik Hariri's determination and strength that rebuilt this ancient city. Ayman Trawi is an amazing photographer, and this is clear from his meticulous work. It is also worth mentioning that this book has been awarded the Guinness award for the world's largest book ever- a replica of this book (304 pages that are 3.85 meters wide and 2.77 meters tall weighing in at 1060 kgs) has been awarded this prestigious award this year. I strongly recommend this book for everyone, as it is a beautiful reminder of the strength of the human spirit to overcome adversity and to rebuild, a reminder that even in the darkest hour man can and will persevere.

This is a great book that shows how strong determination by a person who loves his country can change the face of history. The Author/Photographer did a remarkable job of showing the transformation of Beirut -That witnessed a devastating 17 year old war- from the Stone Ages to the Paris of the middle east. I don't think that words can describe this effort, but as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Thank you Mr. Hariri, and may you rest in peace!

I received the book in a couple of days. This is a truly amazing pictoral journey of the transformation of Beirut by Mr. Hariri. The qulaity of the paper, clarity of the pictures and a brief history of the rebuilding is outstanding. Hundreds of before and after pictures of just about every building from practically the same angle is maticulously documented. I strongly recommend this book and this seller. Thank you Mr. Antoine!! Thank you Mr. Trawi and to Mr. Hariri an eternal thanks..May you rest in peace.

People have been conditioned to purchase real estate retail like they do other consumer goods. Investments should never be treated as a retail purchase! The advice to "Buy Low; Sell High" applies to any investment but this book also encourages a potential real estate investor to look for hidden value. Much of the advice in this book is also equally applicable to acquiring a property as one's primary residence and quite a bit of it can be applied to other investments. I recommend following this book with the multimedia course, "6 Steps to Becoming a Successful Real Estate Investor."

If your motivated about real estate I would say skip the first half of this book. The first have can be compared to a long motivational speech as to why real estate is profitable. The second half of the book he gets into some deals and some very basic formulas and information. This book isn't bad if your on the fence on whether to invest, but if your fully convinced real estate is great focus your time on another book with more content.

This was a good basic introduction on WHY real esate is a good investment...I don't personally think it should be 100% of a person's portfolio, so the reader needs to be very careful and not get carried away into thinking 'real esate is where it's at'! Just like the stock market, RE experiences cycles too.Having said that, this book was very educational in terms of getting me to think outside the box. I wish we had this book prior to selling our first home that we bought. Our mortgage would've been low (less than $1k) in So. CA(!) and I'm sure we would've been able to rent it out for double that! Had I read this book, we would've either rented it out...or fire the sleazy realtor that ripped us off! We learned from that mistake and by reading these types of books...hopefully we'll make better decisions in the future. For this education alone, I'd recommend you read this, take it w/ a grain of salt (in terms of striking it rich ONLY in RE) and use this info. to make the best decision for your situation.

This audio book was interesting but not very detailed. I got some info from this book but it was more like having cliff notes. A lot of general information but if you don't know what to do with that info then it's not very useful.

A must read kind of book for ANYONE that is wanting or doing real estate investing. This book has added so much value to my life and can't wait to implement the strategies and techniques I learned from Dolf. Thanks a bunch and happy investing :)
