Alex Hirsch is a writer, animator, voice actor, and director. He is best known for creating Gravity Falls on Disney XD. He was raised in Piedmont, California, and received a BFA in Character Animation from The California Institute of the Arts. He currently lives in Los Angeles, and is at work developing projects for Film & TV.Rob Renzetti is the creator of the Nickelodeon series My Life As a Teenage Robot. He has worked as a producer, director, storyboard artist, and writer on shows such as Gravity Falls, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Dexter's Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Family Guy. Andy Gonsalves is a designer, illustrator, and storyboard artist who works in the wonderful world of television animation. In addition to his work on popular shows such as Gravity Falls and Uncle Grandpa, Andy is also known for his original designed T-shirts which are worn by people around the world.Stephanie Ramirez, a Los Angeles native, has worked in the animation industry as a character designer and freelance artist since 2007. I don't know what other reviews are talking about. My kid carries/chucks this thing all over the place, and it doesn't even have a torn page. This book is solid as all heck.The content is great. It really helps world build the Gravity Falls universe. So much new material to obsess over. Great for any fan of the series.
IF YOU'RE SOMEONE LIKE ME AND PLAN ON CAUSING AN END OF THE WORLD APOCALYPSE OR JUST WANT SOMETHING TO PASS THE TIME BY LEARNING ALL OF THE UNIVERSE'S DARKEST SECRETS(EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY KNEW THEM ALL!) THEN I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU BUY THIS BOOK! SURE, ITS NOT THAT DURABLE (IT COULD HARDLY SURVIVE GETTING BURNED! HAHA) NOR IS IT THE ENTIRE COLLECTION, BUT IT IS A PRETTY INTERESTING READ ABOUT MY POSSIBLE FUTURE SLAVES AND THE GUY WHO WROTE IT SURE KNOWS HOW TO LEND A 'HAND'. THIS BOOK WAS DEFINITELY WORTH SELLING MY LEFT EYEBALL FOR! CAN'T WAIT FOR JOURNALS 1 & 2!
You can really see how much time and effort went into creating this journal. It is an EXACT replica of what is on the show. Its really amazing, especially for the price. It's really good quality and I recommend this to anyone who watches Gravity Falls or even hasn't seen it yet.P.S.- Dippers real name is actually said in this. If you can't find it, its on the page called "The True Theory of Weirdness" towards the end of the book :)
Honestly I was just expecting a weird little "Disney product" book with like show trivia and just one or two pages from the show but oh. My. God. This thing is a beast and I'm so happy? I'm so content with this book. This was everything I wanted and more. I'm just so happy with it I can't even explain it. It's massive and incredible and the quality is amazing I would have happily paid twice the price for it. I'm elated as hell. Thank you. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the show kids and adults alike.Note: do not leave open while cats are about.
This is a must have for anyone who's seen gravity falls! However I would NOT recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen the show or all the episodes in order cause it contains lots of spoilers and probably wouldn't make sense to someone who hasn't seen the show. I pre ordered my copy and got it the day it was released, I have since then read it too many times to count and not a single page has come loose but maybe I just got lucky and my copy was made with a better batch of glue than everyone else's. Overall, the binding problem definitely seems to have been fixed since then so if you're thinking about buying the book nowadays don't let the reviews about the bad binding stop you! I was a bit disappointed that cipher hunt page wasn't in here cause it looked like a journal page but oh well. I however was not disappointed by the lack of invisible ink since Alex said on his twitter before journal 3 was released that it wouldn't contain the invisible ink so I wasn't expecting it too. I also pre-ordered the journal 3: special edition! I hope the success of Journal 3 will lead to more gravity falls merchandise!EDIT: Journal 3 is also a #1 New York Times bestseller and has been on the New York Times bestseller list for 34 weeks straight! And it's still on the New York Times bestseller seller list to this day!, and since it's only at #5 after 34 weeks on the list it will probably remain on the list for a long time to come! Journal 3 also was on Barnes and nobles top 100 books list at #2, and it made the top 20 customer favorite books list for kids and young adults on amazon in 2016! Also, Forget the age range too, I'm 16 (almost 17) and I love this book!EDIT 2: Now Journal 3 has been on the NYT bestseller list for 46 weeks! Gravity Falls fans are the best!
I can't believe how amazing this book is! It's as if the Journal from the show was taken right off the screen. I love that the cover can come off so you don't have the Gravity Falls logo right on the cover.
Amazing book. From the show, you would think it would just be something you flip through for pictures, but there is actually a story.And the picture with the logo and title is just a dust-cover, that doubles as a poster! You can take that off and the actual Journal cover looks like the one from the show, with no messy title or UPC codes or anything. Only thing that could make it better would be actual black light ink! (Edit: They made a Special Edition with black light ink! Preordered it!)I think it was NYT #1 bestseller for a bit?Edit: I saw lots of comments about the binding, so I have been pretty careful with my copy, and so far, I have had no issues.
Bought this for the hubs because he loved the cartoon. He greeted it with "it's a book." Followed by the ever constant "you remember that you're the one that likes to read, right?" that I've been hearing for some 25 years.You would think I would remember, but I never do. I'm always cruising book stores and Amazon for myself, then feeling that moment of delight when I find a book on a subject in which he's interested, and promptly buying it, and then looking for more so I can buy him a lovely thematic set of books which I can wrap up in a bow. In this case, I even looked for Journals 1 and 2 (yes, I'm an idiot - even though I was in the same room when he was watching the show) thinking I would buy those for him too. Truth is, I have a book right now in the queue for his birthday. After 30 plus years together, I still have no clue. But I do read. A lot.So he gets this for Christmas, attempts to feign some delight (at least I had an appropriate theme - he really did like the show, and I got him a t-shirt, too). Imagine my surprise when a month later, after reading some of it at night before going to sleep, he finishes and says "that was a pretty good book" - words that have only passed his lips after being forced to complete "To Kill a Mockingbird" in high school. "Little Women" was "OK," (he only read that because I asked him to) and he didn't like "Robinson Crusoe," "Canterbury Tales" or "Vanity Fair" (admittedly, he had style issues with those). I'm calling this a complete win for me, the show and the authors. Not to mention anyone who may not enjoy reading.
