This is a heartbreaking story, even though it has a “good” ending. The young protagonist endures and persists against all odds, and his adventures are sometimes heart-stopping. Boys and girls alike will be swept away in the emotional tides of the book, but I would save the book for 10 or 11 year olds. Younger may not be able to appreciate or filter through the hardships without undue worry or sadness. The little duckling that falls out of the dishpan when the protagonist sends it on its way is very much like the boy. Separated from his family and facing a very grim outlook. Apparently, the boy this story is based on did not have the happy ending provided in this book. Older children may be able to compare the story ending with reality then, and now, (Syria, Aleppo etc.) regarding the terrible fates of children in war. The saddest and most poignant part of the book, on which all else lies is the scene when the protagonist must send the ducklings off on their own, as he can no longer safely carry them with him. “…The little duckling was chasing the dishpan, scrambling desperately to get out of the big river back into its little dishpan home. When he (the protagonist) saw that, Tien Pao’s lips trembled. He turned away, and looked no more toward the river.” The protagonist recognized himself in the little duckling. A wonderful book about family, love, perseverance, hardship, independence, growth and hope.

Its sad at first, but then it gets interesting, exiting, suspenseful and so unbelievable. I highly recommend it! 1 of the morals was NEVER give up! We read it for our homeschool read-aloud, its great and we beg for more chapters! Signed 10 year girl,

Some stories just stick with you. I read this book multiple times as a child and finally decided to own a copy. I felt like I was experiencing everything Tien Pao experienced. I think parents should read thus with their child. Children may experience the same thing I did and will need someone to talk with.

I bought this for my seven-year-old so we could read it together. I love to read as a kid and now I'm in my late 40s and this is one of the only books I can remember from the summer I read over 25 books. It was a really good story can't wait to read it again!

Flawed but exciting. No real child could do what this one did, but the premise is wonderful and the ideas are real

I read hundreds of books to my children as they were growing up. This story sticks out in my memory. So I purchased it for my son and his family.

Too intense for young readers, but a nice peek into WWII China. It's a good read - not just for kids.

Who can forget hearing President Reagan in November of 1989 saying '..tear down this wall'.We, as a nation, need to understand our enemies including their long -term objectives. What threats do we have at home and abroad and do we have the right tools to defeat them?ISIS and the jihadis are also discussed in great detail and there are some real eye openers in this section.The last portion is a lengthy interview between the author and Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report which covers this book, President Trump, and the future of conservative thoughts.As a nation, we have to prepare for irregular warfare....including cyber attacks. And, we also must understand our enemies better including their strategic goals, weaknesses and strengths. Be prepared and know what is going on right under your nose. Every American patriot should read this. Read this book!

I knew from seeing him on TV that Sebastian Gorka was a bright man. I knew the way the Left disparaged him that he must have some good stuff. I was not mistaken. The book is well written offering a strategic perspective on what is happening in our country, tied in with interesting lessons from history. He also uses three or four examples of people who represent what is right with America and how we can learn from their example. Until the last chapter or two, this was a 5 Star book. Where it falls short in my opinion is in practical answers for Americans. It says that is why the book is written and he nails it regarding what we can do as a nation but as a citizen seeing my country destroyed I didn't get the solutions promised.

This is an interesting read but I gave up on the ebook version at the 50% mark. It is so riddled with typos that I was continually distracted from the content. Not the worst ebook I've seen in this regard, but close to it. Kept thinking that, if the writer doesn't care enough to ensure a quality edit is posted, then perhaps the ideas he expresses in the book aren't that important to him.

I suppose it’s not a coincidence that the title recalls Frank Capra’s film, “Why We Fight”, which was more centered upon the prominent existential evils of the mid-20th century, Nazism and communism, with which “radical” Islam shares many dehumanizing attributes. The kindle version could use a bit of proofreading, though. For instance, in the story of Red McDaniel, the “sam” should be all-caps and it didn’t “denote” between his plane and that of his wingman, it detonated. There were about a dozen such other odd little glitches that may not be present in the print version. Still, pretty economical tuition for a good mini-course.

I had to buy this book for an online class. It was easy to understand, if not totally dumbed down. The course itself was just like this book: tedious, monotonous, and painful to sit through

Pages have what looks like water damage. Cover is bent and curls up, inside of cover page dirty black marks.

I'm not one that usually complains but this just crossed the line. this book has pages ripped out... like how am I supposed to complete my school work if I don't have the right pages I need? waste of my money.

I rented this book for my career development class over summer. looked a little used on the outside but was perfect on the inside and as I said, it got the job done. returned easily in the same shipping folder it came in.

I got this for my boyfriend for Hanukkah, and for the most part we love it. The rules are interesting and creative, the setting loads of fun, and definitely complex enough to appeal to experienced RP gamers.The only thing I'll say is - read carefully! (We didn't...) This is NOT a complete rules system. This is a setting for the Savage World rules set. You'll have to buy the Savage Worlds rulebook separately. It's not expensive - I think you can get a paperback for about $10 - but still, this book is completely worthless without it.

I love this game

At first glance this book would appear to have the same marshal info of the original reloaded book. It contains The background of what is really going on to the Marshal's and how to use fear levels, gives getter levels of depth to inventions, harrowed characters, and turning players into survitors of the Reckoners.
