This book had notes written with highlighter and pen throughout the last half it. It can easily be read with it, but if you are looking for something in a little better condition, I would not suggest renting this specific copy.

The book has some pages that were unattached, but the pages were still there.

Received promptly however a section of pages in the back was not attached to the book.

Used and kept well

I'm currently teaching from this textbook, and I have to admit that I don't like it a great deal. (I didn't choose it.) While its slim size makes it more portable than other books on the subject, I'm afraid that I'm finding the contents almost as slim as the volume itself. It relies on rather dated play examples (citing Caryl Churchill's 1982 "Top Girls" as an example of the changing roles of women in society feels hopelessly behind-the-times,) the prose runs towards purple rather than clear-for-the-non-theatre-major student, and it often seems that the authors are more focused on expressing their opinions than in laying out facts. At the same time, it feels that there's a lack of analysis--examples are tossed out without explanation, seeming to expect that the reader will know the background of, say, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" that made the casting of James Earl Jones as Big Daddy not only a matter of color-blind casting. The organization of each chapter is also a bit erratic, ricocheting from one area to another without clarifying connections. It's not the worst textbook I've ever used (I hold that for the "new math" textbook I had in college that didn't make much sense...ultimately because it turned out that it had been sent out with typographical errors...in the answer section,) but I would prefer not to use it again.

About the authors:

David Boddy is a Research Fellow in the Department of Management at the University of Glasgow. He teaches courses for experienced managers on the management issues raised by computer-based information systems, which is the focus of his research. He is the author of two other books: Management: An Introduction (2007); and Managing Projects: Building and Leading the Team (2002) both published by Pearson Education.

Albert Boonstra is an associate professor at the Faculty of Management and Organisation, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. His research focuses on the human and organisational issues of implementing and using information and communication technologies. He teaches IT-management-related courses, and consults in the management of information systems for profit and not-for-profit organisations.

Graham Kennedy works in the internal consultancy division of the Royal Bank of Scotland. He has over eighteen years experience as a manager of change initiatives in industries as varied as financial services and engineering. This has provided him with many insights into the opportunities – and problems – which new technologies present to users.

 

 

About the Author
David Boddy is a Research Fellow at the School of Business & Management, University of Glasgow. He is author of two other books published by Pearson Education: Management, an Introduction (2007) and Managing Projects (2002).

Chronologically organized and covering the period of first contact to the present day, Oberg focuses on 11 native communities in all parts of the United States, including the Mohegans, the Cherokee, the Powhatans, the Dakota Sioux, and the Pueblos, whose experiences encapsulate the principal themes and developments in Native American history. He describes the complex relationships they maintained with the colonial powers and, later, the United States and provides readers with an insight into the enormous diversity and varied experiences of Native Americans.

Written in a highly accessible style, Oberg provides an engaging and concise text that remains focused on Indian peoples and emphasizes their importance in the history of the United States.

About the Author
Michael Leroy Oberg is Professor of History at the University of Houston. He is author of Dominion and Civility: English Imperialism and Native America, 1585–1686 (1999; 2003), Uncas: First of the Mohegans (2003; 2007), and The Head in Edward Nugent’s Hand: Lost Tribes and Lost Colonies at Roanoke Island (2007; 2010), and editor of Samuel Wiseman's Book of Record: The Official Account of Bacon's Rebellion in Virginia, 1676–1677 (2005; 2009). In addition to teaching, Oberg received a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2003.
